The Human Rights Committee is made up of Black Hills Works staff, people supported, and community volunteers. They meet monthly to review all requests for rights restrictions to ensure the people supported’s rights are being met, that the request is not too restrictive, and that there is a plan to reduce or restore what is being restricted over time.
“Having community volunteers be a part of this committee is critical to make sure we are being held accountable for our actions,” shared Gayle Steiger, VP of Human Resources. “They ensure our culture and the dignity of risk are present while protecting the safety and health of the people we support.”
Community volunteers that have been part of this committee include Terry Whiting, Ted Huffman, Keith Culver, and Curt Rising. Susan Aurand is the newest member. Thank you to all who have served on this committee, for being our conscience, and acting as a safeguard for the people we support!
If you are interested in being a part of this committee, please contact Gayle Steiger at [email protected] for more information.
