Each person admitted to The Brain Rehabilitation Center will work toward improving his or her cognitive abilities. At The Brain Rehabilitation Center, we know that cognitive training is effective for improving cognitive function only when provided in a structured environment. Treatment plans are formulated based on the results of neuropsychological evaluations and assessments. Cognitive exercises are tailored to focus on improving a person’s cognitive deficits. With nearly 250 different cognitive training tools at our disposal, we can effectively work each area of the brain for maximum cognitive benefit, and ultimately maximum cognitive improvement. Our Cognitive Coordinator utilizes a wide variety of cognitive exercises and compensatory strategies to restore and improve cognitive functioning.
For individuals with language processing difficulties, we offer Speech Therapy and individual speech exercises. We also utilize Bungalow Software, which was designed to treat various types of language deficits and higher-level executive functioning challenges.
We offer RhythmiCog™, a cutting-edge metronome-based therapy designed to improve attention and concentration skills, motor skills, and executive functioning. RhythmiCog™ utilizes the rhythm of the metronome to improve processing speed and executive functioning. It has shown significant promise in improving overall cognitive functioning.
Driving is a higher-level executive function task that is often affected by a brain injury. We have an interactive driving simulator to address this area of need. The driving simulator contains various driver training programs designed to safely assess new drivers or drivers who are relearning the skill. Once a person successfully progresses through the lessons we refer them to Regional Rehabilitation Institute for further behind-the-wheel evaluation. Many people who have gone through our program have successfully — and safely — returned to driving.
In addition, we offer cognitive, psycho-educational, and emotional/behavioral therapy groups throughout the week to improve overall functioning. These groups include:
- Attention Process Training
- Social Communication Skills
- Problem Solving
- Relaxation Strategies
- Memory Strategies and Practice
- Self and Social Awareness
- Practical Living Solutions
- Survivors Group Therapy
- Vocational Exploration
