We have great news to share!
Because of you, the expansion of the Suzie Cappa Art Center is complete!
Thanks to your generosity, matched dollar-for-dollar by Pete and JoVayne Cappa and the Clifford and LaVonne Graese Foundation, the Suzie Cappa Art Center now has the room it needs to grow. Fifteen new artists with disabilities are joining the 30 employed artists who already the art center their creative home. They are building careers, developing professional skills, and contributing to our community’s cultural life, because you believe in them.
The expanded space includes an additional classroom for professional art instruction and a private gallery for events and community partnerships. For 25 years, the Suzie Cappa Art Center has turned talent into opportunity, and opportunity into income, dignity, and belonging. Your gift allowed for expansion of this legacy to more artists.
“Every brush stroke by Suzie Cappa Art Center artists represents YOUR legacy of support,” says Dr. Andrea Serna, Black Hills Works Foundation President. “Our donors make every class and creative creation possible.”
That legacy is already on display. Jonna Montgomery, the Suzie Cappa Art Center’s 2026 Artist of the Year, is turning heads her remarkable artistic talent, whether she is working in watercolor, acrylic, fiber, sculpture, or printmaking. Fellow artists Racheal Raduenz and Sheryl Finch are being celebrated this year among Black Hills Works Foundation’s’ 24 honorees, further proof of the talent this community continues to nurture.
Founded 25 years ago in memory of artist Suzie Cappa, the Center has spent more than a decade in its downtown Rapid City home. This expansion is its next chapter, and you are helping to write it.
Thank you for believing in these artists. Because of you, more brushes are being picked up, more stories are being told in color and thread, and more lives are changing, one stroke at a time.
