Assistive Technology

Communication devices and applications allow people to interact with the world, adaptive dinnerware allows them to feed themselves, and other adaptations make employment possible. Technology, in particular, has the potential to impact virtually all areas of their lives — from independent living arrangements to successful employment to building relationships.

At Black Hills Works, our team of professionals in assistive technology, occupational therapy, and behavior supports create, innovate, problem-solve, and invent, all to offer assistive and adaptive solutions that help the people we support achieve a level of independence that they may never have thought possible.

Items are custom-built to suit each individual’s needs, sometimes using a B9Creations high-resolution 3D printer. Whether utilizing 3D printing technology, PVC pipe, or other materials, our assistive technology team builds prototypes, tests theories, and even deploys full-scale items, all designed for the individual and aimed at maximizing independence.
