Pathways to Possibility…this is our theme for 2026! Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing stories of how doors open when people come together—creating pathways that support full, meaningful lives. These stories will include the 24 honorees that will be celebrated at our Annual Recognition Gala.
Meet Racheal! She grew up in Vale, South Dakota and still lives there. In 2020, she joined the Black Hills Works family.
Programs involved in with BHW: I am in Shared Living and also very involved with Special Olympics. I am in swimming, bocce ball, cheer, track and field, and my favorite sport, which is bowling. My uncle is my bowling partner.
Do you have a job? If so, where: I began working at the Suzie Cappa Art Center in 2020. I’ve always liked doing art. I like to do watercolor, oil painting, sewing, embroidery, and beaded jewelry. I’ve learned to always ask for help if I need to.
People who are important to you: My family is important to me – my mom, sisters, niece and nephews. My staff at Suzie Cappa Art Center are too. And my parrot, Pirate the African Grey.
What makes you happy: My family, being around my family, working with Play-Doh, painting houses, volunteering at the library, doing beading, and using the treadmill.
What you want people to know about you: I’m kind, funny, smart, and goofy.
Favorite things: Taylor Swift! I write all her lyrics down and make bracelets with them. I’ve seen her twice in concert. I liked her Eras tour the best. I also like Taco John’s.
What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2026: Become involved in more activities, be healthy, and grow my artistic skills.
What are you most proud of: Everything, of course!
Best part of being part of BHW: Being with my friends and having staff around. They help me figure things out.
One word to describe me: Kind.
Congratulations, Racheal!
