Celebrating the Power of Volunteers: A Pathway to Possibility

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible individuals who give their time, talents, and hearts to make a difference.

At Black Hills Works, that impact is truly something to celebrate.

In 2025, 696 volunteers generously gave 7,123 hours of their time in support of our mission. Each hour represents a moment of connection, encouragement, and possibility, helping our participants live, work, and thrive in our community.

Making an Impact That Matters

Our volunteers show up in so many meaningful ways.

They lend a hand at events, share hobbies and creative talents, support participants in building new skills, and sometimes simply spend time being a friend. No matter how they serve, each volunteer plays a role in creating opportunities and fostering independence.

Their presence helps open doors, turning everyday moments into meaningful experiences and building pathways to possibility for those we support.

Recognizing Outstanding Community Partners

This year, we’re also proud to celebrate two outstanding partners who were recognized at the Helpline Center’s Spirit of Volunteerism Breakfast:

  • Rushmore Lions Club
  • TruStage

Both organizations have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to giving back and supporting our community. Their continued partnership and generosity help strengthen the programs and opportunities we provide every day.

We are grateful for their dedication and honored to work alongside them.

Your Time Can Change Lives

Volunteerism doesn’t have to look one specific way—there’s a place for everyone to make an impact.

Whether you have a special skill, a favorite hobby, or simply time to spend connecting with others, there are countless ways to get involved. From one-time opportunities to ongoing engagement, every effort matters.

And often, the smallest moments—sharing a conversation, offering encouragement, or trying something new together—can make the biggest difference.
