Meet Dabian, one of the 2025 Honorees

Opportunities through Community…this is our theme for 2025! Throughout the year, you will learn how people supported by Black Hills Works are connected to our community through the opportunities you make possible. These stories will include the 24 honorees that will be celebrated at our Annual Recognition Gala.

Meet Dabian! She grew up on a ranch near Winner, South Dakota and joined Black Hills Works in 2022. She’s involved in residential programming, Special Olympics (softball, cheer, and bowling), and Flutter Productions.

Do you have a job? If so, where? I have worked in Raider Café at Ellsworth Air Force Base for about a year. I have also worked at Crazy Horse Memorial.

People who are important to you: My adoptive mom, my fiancé Jeffrey and his parents, my roommates, and my animals.

What makes you happy: Being creative – I like to make dolls from plastic bags. Feeling comfortable and staying focused also makes me feel happy.

What you want people to know about you: I was recently engaged to Jeffrey. We have been together for two years.

Favorite meals: Chinese food, Taco Bell, Burger King, and HuHot.

Favorite activities or hobbies: Singing to music (all types), dancing at pow wows, riding my bike, getting out of the house, going to garage sales, watching funny animals videos, and keeping busy!

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2025: Performing with Flutter Productions.

Best part of being part of BHW: Having a place to live where I can be independent. Support to help me grow my skills like cooking Indian tacos and baking.

How are you connected to the community?  I am connected through employment!

Congratulations, Dabian!
