Opportunities through Community…this is our theme for 2025! Throughout the year, you will learn how people supported by Black Hills Works are connected to our community through the opportunities you make possible. These stories will include the 24 honorees that will be celebrated at our Annual Recognition Gala.
Meet Manika! She grew up in Sioux Falls, SD and moved to Rapid City to become a part of Black Hills Works in 2015. She is involved in residential and employment services. She also participates in Special Olympics and volunteers at the annual Putt-N-Pub.
Do you have a job? If so, where: I work at Raider Café. I work as a cashier, and sometimes I help with cleaning or doing dishes. I love the people I work with, especially my boss. I like spending time with the people I work with and making my own money to be able to do the things I love.
People who are important to you (family, friends, staff, etc.): My family and my staff – who are like my family. My staff help me get to work and appointments, and they keep me responsible. I like to do things on my own, but I also like knowing I can have help if I ask.
What makes you happy: My staff make me happy; we laugh a lot together. I also love seeing family and friends and going to the movies or shopping with them.
What you want people to know about you: It might take a while to get to know me. Sometimes people can’t tell if I am joking or being serious. Sometimes I have a hard time asking for help, but my staff always know when I need something.
Favorite things (meal, restaurant, song, movie, TV show, etc): I like Taco John’s, the new Lilo & Stitch movie, all music, disney movies, drama movies, horror movies, CSI, and Dog the Bounty Hunter.
Favorite activities or hobbies: I like picking on my staff, reading, coloring, and drawing.
What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2025: My big goal is learning how to drive.
