Meet Mitch, one of the 2025 Honorees

Opportunities through Community…this is our theme for 2025! Throughout the year, you will learn how people supported by Black Hills Works are connected to our community through the opportunities you make possible. These stories will include the 24 honorees that will be celebrated at our Annual Recognition Gala.

Meet Mitch! He was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and moved to Rapid City as a child, becoming a Black Hills Works participant in 1997. He is involved in residential and employment services. He also volunteers as a celebrity putter at Putt N Pub and as an usher at Flutter Productions’ performances.

Do you have a job? If so, where: I have worked at Monument Health in the main hospital for twenty years! I assemble kits and fold supplies. I like my job and the people I work with.

People who are important to you: My mom and three sisters, and my good friend Donald.

What makes you happy: Going out to eat – especially at Taco John’s.

What you want people to know about you: People with disabilities are people just like you. I’m a person too.

Favorite things:  Broncos, country music and Garth Brooks, and the TV show Roseanne.

Favorite activities or hobbies: Doing puzzles, going bowling, and going to movies. I love painting wooden birdhouses, which are popular items at my mom’s annual yard sale!

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2025: Eating healthier.

Best part of being part of BHW: Employment support, having my own apartment, and the staff. They help me with my chores, going to appointments, and more.

How are you connected to the community? Through my long-time job at Monument Health.

Congratulations, Mitch!
