Opportunities through Community…this is our theme for 2025! Throughout the year, you will learn how people supported by Black Hills Works are connected to our community through the opportunities you make possible. These stories will include the 24 honorees that will be celebrated at our Annual Recognition Gala.
Meet Dana. He grew up in Rapid City, attended Stevens High School, and joined Black Hills Works in 1993. He is involved in residential programming and does wheelchair racing and bowling with Special Olympics.
Do you have a job? If so, where? I worked for many years assembling kits and helping prepare mailings through Black Hills Works contracts.
People who are important to you: My sister, nieces, and nephews are important to me. Lots of people are important to me.
What makes you happy: Being outside in the sunshine on a warm day makes me happy. I also like getting my picture taken.
What you want people to know about you: I’m a funny guy with a great sense of humor. I’m personable and easy to hang out with.
Favorite things: I’m a huge Broncos fan! I own lots of Broncos gear and even have orange rims on my wheelchair. I like classic rock and roll too.
Favorite activities or hobbies: I like to be up to date on local politics. I’ve met several of the Rapid City mayors and have toured the mayor’s offices. I also love going to concerts at the Sturgis Rally and going to the Black Hills Speedway.
What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2025: Find employment.
Best part of being part of BHW: Having a place to live that is close to places I like to go.
How are you connected to the community? I am connected through recreation.
