Opportunities through Community…this is our theme for 2025! Throughout the year, you will learn how people supported by Black Hills Works are connected to our community through the opportunities you make possible. These stories will include the 24 honorees that will be celebrated at our Annual Recognition Gala.
Meet Kelli! She was born in Box Elder, South Dakota, but moved to Rapid City very soon after, becoming a Black Hills Works participant in 1999. She is involved in residential services and enjoys helping interview incoming staff at BHW.
Do you have a job? If so, where: I like to stay home and do activities with my housemates.
People who are important to you (family, friends, staff, etc.): The staff here are important to me. They help me advocate for myself. My housemates, family, and brother are also important to me.
What makes you happy: Jamming out to music, dancing, being with my friends, and shopping make me hapy.
What you want people to know about you: Just know that I am happy; I’m me!
Favorite things (meal, restaurant, song, movie, TV show, etc): I like all music (especially the band Air Supply), the colors pink and purple, Texas Roadhouse, Bath & Body Works, and any food with potatoes.
Favorite activities or hobbies: I like going to the mall with my friends and staff to look around, cooking, and going to Spearfish Canyon, especially in the fall when the leaves are changing.
What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2025: I am working on going to the gym more.
Best part of being part of BHW: The best part of BHW is all of the people – and it’s just fun! Staff help me get dressed and pick out my outfits, and they tell me I’m a rockstar.
How are you connected to the community? I go with my family and staff to experience everything in Rapid City.
Congratulations, Kelli!
