Meet Thomas, one of the 2026 Honorees

Pathways to Possibility…this is our theme for 2026! Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing stories of how doors open when people come together—creating pathways that support full, meaningful lives. These stories will include the 24 honorees that will be celebrated at our Annual Recognition Gala.

Meet Thomas! He grew up in Martin, South Dakota. He joined the Black Hills Works family in 1989.

Programs involved in with BHW: I’m in residential programming. I have been involved in employment programming, Special Olympics, and day service programs.

Do you have a job? I worked at Black Hills Works Industries for many years on different contracts. I really liked my job coach.

People who are important to you: My sisters and my staff are important to me.

What makes you happy: My birthday makes me happy, along with my collections of toy horses and Hot Wheels. I love being in nature.

What you want people to know about you: I am kind and funny. My staff say they love that I create comedy throughout the day. I often greet them in the morning with songs from The Sound of Music.

Favorite things: The Lion King movies, cake, and reading. I love to sing country music. I like going to rodeos, to Fleet Farm to look at the tractors, and to the alpaca farm. I love my cowboy boots and hat and went to the rodeo for my birthday. I almost always wear my Bennett County Warriors ballcap.

What is one thing you would like to accomplish in 2026: Go to the rodeo.

What are you most proud of: Making people laugh.

Best part of being part of BHW: Going on outings with my staff and joking around with my staff.

Congratulations, Thomas!
